A common House Fire cause and how to prevent it!

There is an unnoticed yet, all too common house fire cause, one that needs not to be overlooked. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 15,000 fires are sparked every year by clothes dryers. Lint and other debris can build up in your dryer vent, reducing air flow to the dryer, backing up dryer exhaust gases, creating a fire hazard.

Tips for Do-It-Yourself Care

Make sure the lint trap is clean either before or after a load
Keep the area behind the washer/dryer clean
Keep items off the top of your dryer to avoid clutter
Make sure the transition hose behind your dryer isn’t “sandwiched” between your wall and dryer. This could cause massive air flow reduction and quicker lint build up
Never have your washer or dryer running while you are not home or asleep. (This goes for your other appliances as well to avoid a fire).
Avoid putting garage rags that have been stained with gasoline or motor oil and aprons, dish towels, and napkins stained with cooking oil into your dryer. These items can ignite even if it's been washed.
Also, it's a good idea not to place anything rubber or plastic (i.e. rubber bath mats) in the dryer.
The extra lint from certain extra "fluffy" materials can block your vent fast. It's best to wash, then dry them out on a line.
